John, what's happening under the hood is anybody's guess at this point. Unchecking the box for UltraNR pauses the analysis, which otherwise would introduce some latency when changing the size of the search area or location, but when previewing or rendering, I think it's still in play.
Using the numbers from the UltraNR analysis into the other spatial processes, 'faster, better, enhanced' didn't seem to produce the same result for me with the U12K as UltraNR, which seems to use an AI algorithm. I haven't tested this exhaustively, but in general, I avoid spatial NR of any method unless necessary, in preference to a low value, temporal 2-frame 'faster.'
But UltraNR with my U12K seems uniquely capable of removing chroma (and luma) noise on a finer level with less adverse consequence than the other spatial methods. And the only way to truly halt the processing during preview or render is to disable or reset the node (I think), but applying the numbers from the analysis into 'faster' didn't have the same magic for me. I did try this, but not exhaustively.
