Video Assist 12G to BMCC 2.5k

PostSat Apr 27, 2024 9:36 pm

Hello BM World.

I have a question that I have not been able to confirm myself.

I own a BMCC 2.5K & a BMPC 4k, which I both picked up on eBay over the past year.

Both cameras have SDI support and record in CinemaDNG & ProRes.

My question to the forum is, will the new Blackmagic Video Assist 12G HDR, allow the BMCC/BMPC to record BRAW?

Not looking so much for opinions but rather a definitive yes or no. Hoping someone may have already confirmed.

Thanks everyone.

You can only use later slim raw software to optimize compression, but you cannot record braw from them be cause them not are enough powerful to produce a braw.

The Video Assist is what records BRAW.

Nevertheless, those cameras can't support it the way some current hybrids do.
I'd stick to ProRes, cDNG being pretty heavy.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

Yea, but camera should pre process the braw be cause it is partially de mosaicezed and both original cameras not have enough power to do that, and them never received update of firmware from many years.

Braw require that camera produce a right kind of output, every camera that output braw are firmware enabled to do that.
See the original presentation of Grant about Braw.

The output of that cameras are not full, I had both and on videoassist12g (I also had it) you receive a fhd signal from bmcc and an uhd from Bmpc4k, not a raw data’s.
First record in 2.4k and second in 4k dci raw cdng.

At the time it was released I might agree but in 2024 it’s really not that bad. Plus, as other folks mentioned, SlimRAW is a great tool that can help you save some space if you’re comfortable with compressed DNGs.
