How much information has been released about the front USB-C (aka the EVF port) on the new Pyxis camera?
I understand it provides a standard Display Port output feed, and obviously it is capable of handling at least some camera control signaling from the EVF. But how far does this go?
For instance, could I attach one of the USB powered "laptop companion" screens (many of them less than $100.00 these days) and use that as a large (and inexpensive) camera monitor? And how many control functions will camera monitor makers be able to incorporate in future USB-C based 5" and 7" units? Certainly screens in that size range will be low-power enough to be run directly off the port without requiring a separate power feed or battery. I would hope so anyway.
Also, can the port handle audio in and/or out? And if yes, then what sorts of additional accessories might this allow?
Of course the same questions apply to the Cine 12K.
I suspect this port will prove to be the most under appreciated feature of the new BM camera lineup, though ultimately it will lead to a lot of operator quality of life improvements down the road. How much smaller and lighter does an external monitor become when it doesn't need a battery mount or external power or video ports (or maybe just video out?)?
I don't see anyone asking these questions yet in the BM interviews I've seen, but seems like we ought to know.
