Compound Clip Media Goes Offline

PostFri Feb 09, 2024 6:36 pm

I have a project with numerous compound clips.

When I go into the color page and grade a clip, then save it as a still, and then split screen another clip to match the grade, the still clip goes offline in the split screen.

I can capture a new still, but it still stays offline.
This does not occur in regular color grading, or in the timeline preview. Just in the split screen.

Also, sometimes the compound clips go offline in the edit page.

To resolve this issue, I've been going to each clip individually, opening the inspector, and resetting the video. That seems to fix the issue on the edit timeline. But the issue persists on the color page.

Unfortunately, not having a split screen really degrades the color workflow, so this is a pretty serious issue.

Has anyone else experienced this? And if so, do you have any suggestions or solutions?

UPDATE:

I think I know what the problem was.

My media drive, with the CacheClip folder was full.

Resolve had created 600GB of Cached files for this project, so much that the drive ran out of space.
But Resolve did not let me know this had happened. So suddenly things started breaking.

I noticed the problem when managing media in order to back up the project.

Once I delete the CacheClips for the current project, I stopped getting Media Offline warnings.

If the problem creeps up again, I'll post an update.

But for now it seems the media is online and working.

For Reference, below is the trouble shooting steps I went through in Resolve before noticing the drive Issue.

-----------------
The problem is worse than I thought.

I went to the timeline and replaced the compound clips one by one with the original footage.

At first it seemed to work, but then those clips started going offline on the color page as well.

Then I tried turning off the proxies, thinking that might be culprit.

But when I updated the thumbnails, all the clips went offline.

After removing the pre and post group grades, the behavior seems to have reduced.

The split screen stills remain offline, but at least the clips aren't disappearing so far in the color page.

Other strange behavior:
Titles, Fusion, and Transitions go offline when switching from the color back to the edit page.
I can fix by manually resetting video. But it's not ideal.

So it is possible the issue is related in some way with the pre and post group grading feature.

The video does not render either. I did a test render and none of the color graded footage renders.
None of the compound clips render. When I import the rendered file back into DaVinci, it says Media Offline.

If anyone has any Ideas on how to fix this, please let me know.

This *might* work for you:

POTENTIAL WORKAROUND:

Export the offline timeline as XML or OTIO and reimport. This is putting clips back online for me in very limited testing.

FOR SAFETY: select all and 'flatten multicam' to unnest.
