Zoom to specific size in pixels?

PostSun Mar 28, 2021 7:00 pm

Hi all.
I'm working on a time-lapse from TIF images with resolution 7360x4140.
If I want the final video to have the resolution 1920x1080 for example, is it possible to zoom in to a specific size in pixels when editing, in this example 1920x1080, to avoid quality loss in the final video?

Thanks,
Lage

If your output res is 1920x1080, just set the master timeline setting resolution to that res.

I think you misunderstood my question, or i don't understand your answer. How will setting the master timeline resolution to 1920x1080 prevent me from zooming in beyond 1920x1080 pixels in my TIF images? I want to zoom and pan in the TIF image timelapse clip, but not beyond the size of 1920x1080 pixels in the TIF files of 7360x4140 size, to avoid loosing quality in the final video.
Not easy to explain what I mean, being a beginner with this SW and not native english speaking. I hope I made my intention a bit more clear. :-)

Set your timeline to 1920 x1080 and your Input Scaling to Center crop with no resizing.

If you never Zoom above 1, you're good.

I guess that works as a workaround, but then you move the problem to how to zoom out to exactly fit the full TIF image size, or is there a "zoom to fit" function in video transform that I'm not aware of?
My workaround was just like this, but the other way around, keeping input scaling to "scale entire image to fit" and calculating max zoom level 7360/1920=3,833.

Change the Zoom parameter in the Inspector.

Well, if you like math. But my proposed Feature Request is there to avoid math. Support it if you like it.

I agree. I shouldn't have to do math for a simple zoom. It should be in pixels

It will never be. DR is trying to stay resolution independent as much as possible (and doing it pretty well).
So use Jim's advice. Or After Effects, where everything is in pixels ;-)
