Resolve 18.6.4 - TImeline Color Management Issue

PostSat Dec 09, 2023 6:53 pm

I don't do major updates during projects, but I must have missed something recently because when I did what I thought was a minor update with bug fixes (18.6.4), I noticed my color on a render was off and when I went to check my setting it said something like "any modifications will not affect the current timeline" and I had to go into the color settings on my individual timelines. When I put in what I thought were the same settings, everything was really horrible. Is there a way to switch back to project level color management where my settings worked because when I put the same settings on the timeline, the color is funky? Not sure how this is even possible. There aren't Raw or Log clips but there are a variety of cameras used and every time I think one looks okay, the other is screwy. First, I just want someone to let me know there was a change to the program (and not something random I did), then I'll go from there.

On the bottom of the Format tab of Timeline Settings, there is a check box to Use Project Settings.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Yes Jim - Unfortunately that box is greyed out and uncheckable for some reason.

Hmmm. Don't recall ever seeing that.

Well, post up your Color settings for the Project and the Timeline. Maybe we can help another way.

Thanks Jim - hop you don't regret that offer. I'm posting what I believed were my project level setting and my timeline level settings now that I cannot use the project settings. I've been pulling my hair out with both so I'm not sure if I'm even in the ballpark anymore or what they were originally. I trusted Cullen Kelly on YouTube to guide me, but now I question everything.
As you can see, I cannot uncheck the box to use project level settings and the other thing is that it doen't have the option for input color space. I'm working on a Mac Studio, and there is no Raw or Log footage, but many cameras were used. I just need a baseline to work from because some adjustments are affecting clips differently if that makes sense. I feel like color is 90% getting the management right, but I'm fumbling with it.
Appreciate you taking a look.

There are issues when using timelines from a previous version, especially older versions.
Try make a new empty timeline and copy and paste all the contents from the old timeline.
Let us know if that fixed anything.

I was doing just that as you replied. I copied to the new project and it lets me work under the project settings. I don't trust these settings at all, everything feels so different somehow. I just need a baseline to work from that I can trust and a way to export without what seems to be a massive gamma shift.. Is there a more basic color management setting that I should use than what I have since there is no raw or log in my project?

You have your output color space set to rec709 (scene).
