Relink vs Replace Source clip vs Change Source Folder

PostFri Apr 05, 2024 10:04 pm

I am replacing some 'proxy' resolution clips from another editing program with the original HQ resolution clips here in Davinci. I've already exported the EDL from the other program and have my timeline intact on the Davinci Timeline.

I'm now ready to replace the proxies for the HQ files and can do so easily by using either the Relink Selected Clips or Change Source Folder, however, even though the clips are replaced, the resolution is NOT updated. Is this the way this is intended to work or perhaps just an oversight?

That being said, I can use Replace Source Clip, however, I can only do such a thing on an individual clip basis.

Oh yeah, I've also tried the Link Full Resolution Media, however that only seems to work if the proxies were made in Davinci or have the same embedded timecode, something like that. Even if LFRM TO and FROM the same clip, it seems to be looking for something else and cannot find what its looking for.

You need to adapt the timeline's resolution too.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

Yes, did that. I don't seem to have any different results.

What exactly do you mean by that?

What I meant was that the 1080p footage that would get replaced with 4K footage with 'Change Source Folder', would still be indicated in the Media Bin as the original 1080p resolution; the file path of course would update.

HOWEVER, this all being said, the actual replaced footage on the timeline does have the higher 4k resolution. I just noticed this with a shot that had some small text that was readable at quite a large zoom factor; this to me was proof that the footage IS being replaced, BUT under the Resolution column in the Media Bins, it is NOT showing the correct new resolution. So, it is just misleading when glancing at Resolution in the bins.
