Exporting for Filmhub

I exported a video at the settings above and submitted it to Filmhub. It was rejected with the following (not too helpful) comment:

Overcompressed or Unsupported Codec - Video has a compression rate above Filmhub's maximum requirement, or was supplied with an unsupported video codec or file format.

Filmhub gives some tech specs here: https://help.filmhub.com/articles/8371137-maximum-video-compression-rate

but I can't figure out exactly how they relate to the output settings in Resolve. I don't see anything in Resolve's "Type" dropdown that looks like it would be any better than what I gave Filmhub already.

Any ideas what specific output settings might give them what they're looking for? They only let you submit three times before your film is ineligible, so a "throw you-know-what against the wall and see what sticks" approach won't work here :)

ProRes 422HQ is listed in the "Accept" category (HD and 4K). Why not just do that?

BTW, please don't post your message twice here. Just wait a few minutes and it'll show up.

I'm running Resolve on a Windows PC...I don't have the option to export ProRes.

Not sure why my OP posted twice; I've deleted the redundant copy.

Do this…

Format: MOV
Codec: DNxHR
Type: SQ or HQ or 444

I don't have the option to do MOV. It will let me do Quicktime...would the following work?

Format: Quicktime
Codec: DNxHR
Type: DNxHR HQ

MOV or QuickTime means the same.

This'll do.

I re-exported and uploaded to Filmhub this afternoon...here's what I ended up doing:

Format: Quicktime
Codec: DNxHR
Type: DNxHR 444 12-bit

The maxed out quality settings might be overkill but I don't think that will be an issue. I'm even thinking it's possible that the reason the first one bounced isn't because of the compression but because it had a .mxf extension - though I can't be sure because their cryptic feedback that's in my OP doesn't spell it out. So I went with Quicktime and now it has a .mov extension.

Hopefully this one will do the job...we'll see what shakes.

You are correct...I chose Quicktime as the format and it exported with the .mov extension.

Whether or not DNxHR 444 12-bit is overkill depends on what codec you shot on in the camera. Do you know?

It's an animation. The source images are 8bpc TIFs.

Well, you won’t get those missing 4 bits miraculously.
It is overkill and 10 bit codecs would still be plenty.

Makes sense.

So I've just been notified that the film has passed Filmhub's quality control with the above settings. As Uli pointed out, going with 10 bit instead of 12 would have most likely worked also.
