adjustment clips slow framerate

PostFri Apr 19, 2024 10:25 am

hi all

ive been pulling my hair out for months over this.

when an adjustment clip occupies a video track, all the clips below stutter and stammer. their framerate moves around going down to as low as 4fps but mainly around 9fp.

it makes the timeline unwatchable

have i done something wrong? or is there a know workaround?

thanks

What effect are you putting on the adjustment clip?
If NR it’s likely normal if your system isn’t very powerful

Hi Peter

thanks for the reply

I reposted this with more detail but then found that this thread was not in my post list to delete, so now i have two posts the same. - apologies.

the effect is only a digital glitch.

I think my system should be able to manage it?
Below Ive posted my specs for checking, as well as the additions i made to my post. hi all

ive been pulling my hair out over this for months.

once i place an adjustment clip in a video track all the clips below are slowed down on playback in the editing page. the framerate drops to around 9fps, but goes a as low as 4fps.

also if i adjust the adjustment clip - move it shorten it lengthen etc - davinci hangs at the same time the PC fans spin up to what sounds like maximum - i cant see what the rpm is as davinci dominates the PC making it all hang.

after several months of trying to sort it myself by reading thread and watching videos, i cant work it out.

all advice appreciated.

thanks

DavinciResolve 18.6 - free version (if i can work out the problems, i want to buy studio)
render cache - smart
working folder is on desktop - c drive
cache files are on internal d drive - DNxHR SQ
all media is in the working folder then dragged to media pool
all media has been optimised.
mix of gopro, mp4, jpeg. various sound files mp3, wav
gopro files are handbraked as they were so choppy , it was unworkable.

Mine can't. (Same GPU.)

And I DO have Studio.

Digital Glitch is a Fusion effect that brings an Nvidia RTX 4090 to 90-95% load in an HD timeline at 24fps, at least on my system.

Use caching.

If things don’t change much in that area you can use Render in Place and it’ll go back to playing at full speed.

Curious that caching doesn’t do the same. Seems like it should.

What's your cache format?
