Resolve 18.5 super buggy

PostFri Apr 19, 2024 12:20 pm

Hi everyone

I'm running studio version of resolve 18.5 on a Macbook pro M1 Monterey 12.6 and I'm noticing my resolve super buggy while working on this specific project.

Image format is 720x576 pal
h264 encapsulated on a .m4v
all files are on the computers hard drive.

I notice that sometimes I get media offline on my viewer window even though I haven't moved the files anywhere. It seems like Resolve is struggling to find the specific time of the specific file and show it. When this happens keyboard loses it's funcionality as if resolve went to sleep and I have to wait a bit for it to wake up again.
Also I noticed that sometimes It doesn't recognize WAV files on the media page and I can't import them to the project. I'm sure this must have something to do with the format and encapsulation of the file.

Anyone struggling like this

Help us obi wan
Thanks

.m4v files are an Apple version of MP4. They can carry Digital Rights Management. This is the format used for iTunes for instance. Where did your files come from?
They are also not shown in the Resolve compatible codec guide. I would suggest you try converting them to MP4 using either Shutter Encoder or Handbrake, both of which are free to download and use.

If they are not copy-protected, you can re-wrap them into MOV.
And then, DR 18 is very stable here under Monterey.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

Here, 18.6.6 (the last version of 18) has a ton of bug fixes over 18.5 -- I'd recommend that for an M1 Max.

You could use a 3rd-party program like Wondershare UniConverter to render all the M4V files to something easier for the Mac to deal with. That's a bad format for post for a lot of reasons.

I take it this is 625-line interlaced? Also a tricky format to deal with. What do you ultimately need to do with the file? Is this for a 25fps interlaced delivery, or progressive?

If this is for European TV and originally interlaced, you should work interlaced.
If it's for social media, and worth the effort, you may want to use Topaz Video AI.

Hey everyone

Thanks for you help. It must be the digital copywrite thing. I downloaded them because I was doing this project where I wanted to start editing as soon as possible so I could ask for the rights of the images I actually used. All is sorted now
Anyways I downloaded MP4 but davinci wasn't recognizing them so I used VLC to convert them. I tried the mp4 conversion but It gave the m4v files.

Thanks for the help

MP4 is just a container -- it might have all kinds of different formats inside.

Are you using Resolve Studio? Studio can handle a much wider range of video codecs than the free version.
