Media Not Loading in Davinci Resolve 18.6 on Linux

PostMon Apr 29, 2024 5:01 am

I am running Linux Elementary OS and DR 18.6. I have uploaded a VP9 video file with AC3 audio, and the screen is just black and the file doesn't play. I am somehow able to add it to my timeline, but it doesn't do anything. I know my computer is more than capable, I have an NVIDIA driver (latest one) and 6gb of VRAM. I saw someone suggest for Windows Users Disabling the Virtual Display, but I can't seem to find that option on eOS. Any ideas what's going on?

Could be non-compatible codecs on Linux. Have you checked that?
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Yes I have checked my codecs. The file I'm trying to edit is a video I exported from Final Cut Pro on another computer. I have exported the video a handful of times trying different file types and codecs, and I haven't been able to get it to work.

I did just this morning update my GPU driver again and was able to get the audio to play on the video, but the video still doesn't play.

But I am also now getting an error that says "Your GPU memory is full." But I only have the one project with the one 30 second video file which is in 1080p

OK.

You've tried ProRes?

Are you using Resolve Studio, or the free version? The free version has limited codec support on Linux, i.e. no H.264/H.265 support. And no AAC audio support in either version.

I am using the free version, and I am 90% sure I am using codecs that are compatible with the free version for Linux. I made sure that my audio codec was not AAC and that my video was ProRes.

If you can provide a link to a file that's not working for you, I can verify if it will work in the free Linux version or not.

And if you can provide a Resolve diagnostics log (from the Resolve Help menu) that would also be useful.
