Dolby Vision error multiple level 2

PostMon May 06, 2024 8:09 am

Hello,

I'm having trouble with a DOVI project and wanted to know if you ever knew what for and how:

I have an IMF master that is trouble free to start with. (IMF REC2020 PQ - MasterDisplay BT2020,D65,ST2084,1000)

Metafier doesn't see any errors if I validate.

After importing the IMF into RESOLVE without any action on my part
if I export an IMF or even just the METADATAS from RESOLVE
I get errors on all :

ERROR: Multiple Level2 Targets with similar Max Luminance 600
ERROR: Multiple Level2 Targets with similar Max Luminance 1000

I've noticed that 2 display targets have been added that are not in the original xml:

ID 28 - 600-nit, BT2020, ST.2084
ID 49 - 1000-nit, BT 2020, ST.2084

In the original, only these display targets appear:

ID 1 - 100 nit BT.709, BT 1886
ID 27 - 600 nit, P3, D65, ST.2084
ID 48 - 1000 nit, P3, D65, ST.2084

(The strange thing is that RESOLVE has a target ID 49 which corresponds to Mastering Display(1000-nit, BT 2020, ST.2084 ))

Do you know why RESOLVE adds these targets?

The problem was tested on 3 different versions of Resolve (PC and MAC):
-18.2
-18.5
-18.6

Thanks for your help,

Bruno

As this may be of interest to a wider group, I would like to share the cause of these issues . Thankfully, I got access to the metadata that was created in 4.0.

The original metadata lists ID1, ID27 and ID48, all P3 as target displays. This indicates that the metadata has initially been generated with a P3 mastering monitor. However, the metadata lists ID21 which indicates a Rec.2020 mastering display ID.
Therefore, the mastering display setting has been altered afterwards.
this has also been recorded in the revision history of the XML metadata.

It seems that whoever changed the metadata wanted to export in Rec.2020 from a finished P3 master.

However, changing the mastering monitor setting after analysis will change the mapping.

If you would like to export in 2020 from a P3 master, this video might be useful - https://professionalsupport.dolby.com/s ... uage=en_US

Resolve will add the Rec.2020 targets by default for backward compatibility as the mastering display is set to 2020 as well. You can find additional info in backward compatibility here: https://professionalsupport.dolby.com/s ... uage=en_US
