Clips with same frame rate but different Mbps

PostMon May 06, 2024 2:59 pm

My OM-1 and Panasonic Lumix II 4/3 cameras take 4k footage at 29.97 fps. But their Mbps is different, about 100 Mbps for the OM-1 and 400 Mbps for the Lumix II.

I have a timeline with simultaneous footage from both cameras (I will do multicam). But my problem is that if I select a single track to play (by disabling the other tracks with 'D'), the Lumix track plays in ultra slow motion. How can I fix this?

It does sound like the Lumix is recording in more than 29.97 fps.

Okay, that rules out the files.

The other thing I can think of is that the Lumix is 4:2:2, and your graphics card does not hardware decode it, so the CPU has to do it, making the decoding slow. Is the button on the top left green or red? (see image)

Strangeness continues. The above was on my Mac studio. I decided to try it on my new Framework laptop with an AMD GPU (AMD Radeon™ RX 7700S)..
But when I try to import the Lumix clips into DaVinci, I only get the (4) audio channels. No Video.
Windows Media Player says unsupported encoding.

I am reexporting all these Lumix clips at the correct resolution, so will see it that works.

That confirms my hardware decoding theory.
Can you share a clip for testing free vs studio decoding?

Is this studio or free?

IIRC the 400 is all-I which should be easier to decode. Bigger files but the computer doesn't need to create the missing frames.

My guess is your storage can't keep up. At least on the Mac.

On the PC? If it's free the files might not be supported.

Exporting the Lumix files with correct aspect ratio fixed this. I have studio version on the laptop.
Thanls for help.
