Need advise on config p9x79pro + GTX 680 4GB

PostWed Feb 13, 2013 6:22 pm

Hi Guys, so I'm wondering how to squeeze the most juice out of Resolve 9.1.1 I'm running in windows 7x64 and have the following config:

Asus P9x79 Pro Mobo /w 6 core 4ghz CPU / 64GB RAM
Evga GTX 680 4GB Ram as my single card.
1200W powersupply by Corsair

My performance is sub-par. I would like to add a second card, but am confused about slot positioning? First off why does it matter, secondly what is a good option for a second card?

I'm thinking of adding another 680 2GB or 580 2GB.. Thoughts? Does resolve use video memory as well or only cuda cores?

Thanks

Can you define "sub par"? What codec? Disk speed? Do u have a raid card or using motherboard sata? Slot for GPU? Any other cards installed? Which slots? Do you have a Decklink installed or using USB to Ultrastudio or none?

Re slots, they have different performance, some share speed so put a second card in the wrong slot may half performance of the first card.

Resolve used GPU ram, the more the better.

Thanks Peter,

I guess I meant something below a 560. However, now I'm thinking of getting a second GTX 680 4GB.. Right now my GTX is in the 1'st slot blue slot.

I have another card in the second blue slot, it's a audigy xonar stx essence sound-card.

I'm editing, off of a RAID 0 Stripe 7200 drives so it's quite fast. Premier has no issues with playback or scrub what so ever. I'm using motherboard raid.

No decklink etc, only editing off hard-drive (internally)

If memory serves me correctly I think you should install the second GPU in Slot 5. It's the other full length dark blue slot on the bottom. Both GPUs will run at full 16X this way. Make sure your PSU can handle the extra load.
