No open CL acceleration on Macpro

PostTue Apr 09, 2013 3:05 pm

Hi,

Whant to get started with Davinci before I get my BMCC. When I start up the Davinci Resolve lite 9, I get the message :

"no open CL Acceleration Hardware Detected. Please quit Resolve and install a OpenCL accelerated GPU card or update your Open CL software driver to the latest version before continuing to use Resolve"

What more exact do I need to do to get this program working? My Cuda Driver version is 5.0.37.

I have a:
Macpro 3,10
10.6.8
Processor: 2x2.8 Ghz Quad_core intel Xeon
10 GB 667 MHz

Many thanks,
/Conny

Hi Conny,

You need at least 10.7.5 or 10.8.2 to run Resolve.

Hi, you don't list a GPU. Please refer to our config guide for certified systems.

Hi Conny,

You have to checkout which graphics card you are using. (go to "about this MAC")

At my work we had a macpro 3.1 with a Nvidia 8800GT(512MB) which worked fine with Resolve
(although the performance was not great).
I also tested a GTX650 (2GB); i did not give a boot screen but worked fine for Resolve.
Don't expect to much performance on a Macpro 3.1 (see the other threads on this forum);
grading prores will be fine but heavier codecs or higher resolutions won't have realtime
performance.

Hi,

Thanks for you reply. When I look at grafic I have: ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 256 MB

What kind of changes can I do to make it work better?

Kind regards,

In the message it say´s "please quit Resolv and install a Open CL accelerator GPU card or update your Open Cl software driver to the latest version before continuing to use Resolve.

My Cuda Driver version is: 5.0.45
Is there anyother version that I could try and install?

Hi Conny,

Your graphics card is too old and not supported by Resolve.
You will get the best results if you swap it with an Nvidia card, with at least 1G of video memeory
If you choose a card specific for MAC only, like a Quadro4000 (MAC), you will pay a high price
with a relative low performance.
The other possibility is to buy a PC-card like the GTX6.. series. You won't see the bootscreen anymore
(after a while you will see the login screen appearring) but you will get more performance for your money. The GTX660ti(3GB) will give you the best price/performance.

But you have to realise that your system is getting old and maybe it's better to invest in an Imac
with lots of memory, the latest Nvidia graphics and thunderbolt&usb3.

Regards Jaap
