DCTL - official BMD programming courses

PostFri Apr 12, 2024 9:03 am

If BMD would take the powerful tool of DCTLs out of the dungeons and into the daylight for people to build a library of great tools, I think it would benefit everyone involved.

Official BMD online DCTL programming courses, maybe beginner - intermediate - advanced.

Personally I almost exclusively use DCTLs as they can be more precise, 'correct', fast and pleasing, but only a handful of people make/sell them.

There is a very good 10-part (I think) DCTL course over on MixingLight.com by Cullen Kelly. Note this is a pay site, but I think it's a good value.

Thanks Marc, I've seen it. Kaur Hendrikson has a great free beginners course, too.

I just feel freely available courses would benefit both BMD and users in the long run.

EDIT: that being said, Color Slice and Film Look Creator seem to address some of the most popular DCTL tools out there, so maybe BMD themselves will develop much more of these great tools that are possible.

I don't understand this Walter. They have free training courses for Resolve, too. Because it benefits them ultimately.
A community, able to create great tools for Resolve, would be beneficial for Resolve as a platform and return the work put into the courses.

+1. Take the free zoom workshops and turn them into an optional module in one of the training PDFs. Same deal for the scripting workshop coming up soon.

While I'm dreaming, a workshop on other scripting things like Workflow Integrations would be nice. I'm sure something's probably in the works, but it'd be nice to have some official guide beyond the examples and the readme.

While I too would like as much information as possible about the different APIs they provide, I think an actual programming course might be too far from their scope.

If the published API documentation is the manual, then asking for a course on programming is like asking the author of the Resolve Edit page manual section for "How do I make my movie better?" in the sense that it has nothing to do with Resolve.

Perhaps that's a hot take. To be clear, I would like to see it but I don't think it will happen except for some examples and the webinars they've had. By the way, how does one find out about the Zoom webinars?

I'm doing quarterly beginner courses with BMD on DCTL programming and have a tutorial series on my YouTube channel.
