Display HDR on viewers for Windows

PostMon May 06, 2024 3:47 pm

I’ve invested in Windows systems, DaVinci Resolve, and an HDR laptop. It’s disappointing that Blackmagic Design has not extended the same support to Windows users as it has to Mac users, particularly with the Display HDR on viewers feature. Having such a feature on Windows would be incredibly beneficial, especially since I’m currently unable to grade on my laptop, which boasts a P3, 1000 nits, 10-bit, 4K display. It would be truly remarkable if Blackmagic Design could provide this essential feature to us.

It's coming in version 19.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Ok, I found it inside the Resolve 19 new features guide:
https://documents.blackmagicdesign.com/ ... _Guide.pdf

Support for HDR Displays on Windows*
You can now display the native viewers in DaVinci Resolve in HDR on Windows systems.
The setting affects all DaVinci Resolve Viewers, including the Main Page Viewers, Cinema Mode,
Fairlight Floating Viewer, Scene Cut Dialog, and the Video Clean Feed.
You will need an HDR-capable display and to turn on HDR in the Windows display settings
(System > Display > HDR). In DaVinci Resolve Preferences > System > General, you will need to
check the “Use 10-bit precision in viewers if available” box.
NOTE: The general controls/UI and non-Viewer dialogs (e.g., secondary screen, project
manager, floating Media Pool) are not affected.
* As of this writing, HDR Displays on Windows was not available but will be included in the final release.
