clip color - add red

I know, red is the color of the offline media.

if I want to flag (not literally using a flag) a shot to my editorial staff because is broken, red is the best color.. It's powerful and it spell disaster without even describing what wrong...

and...

flags, markers and clip color have different color orders... choose one! (if you look at the edit index show clip color vs contextual clip color vs drop down flag/marker...).

At the moment Clips/Tracks follow one color scheme, Flags/Markers follow another and Folders in the Media Pool have their own as well.

I don't see any reason why they couldn't all be the same either. Especially if you rely on muscle memory to change colors. If they were standardised then you could easily set a number + modifier key for color + relevant action.

Agree about red as well, nothing says "fix this" like bright red.

Also, while I'm not bothered about being unable to choose custom colors, it would be great if we could rename them, and perhaps even set rules for automatic clip colors in the media pool based on the same parameters that are used to create smart bins. But that's a whole other topic

Not being able to customize clip and marker colors in Resolve has kept our entire production company in Premiere. We have a strict color-coding system that follows from prep thru post. The fact that we can't customize these colors in Resolve is a huge issue and ESPECIALLY that we cannot have a true red clip and ESPECIALLY that nothing matches. Glaring oversight. Please correct. Give us the ability to use customize colors across the interface, please!!

Ideally you could save custom colors, either individually (like in After Effects or Premiere) or as custom color palettes (like in Photoshop)

Exactly! They all should have the same name and order. And maybe a custom Label and Color préference option like in After Effects would be nice.

This one is a no brainer. We are visual creatures. To ignore people who like to work visually with their clips is just ridiculous.

To those already on 18, is this still not implemented in 18 beta? We cannot live on teal navy apricot and the likes forever please!!

Yes, yes, yes! Please let us customize these colors. It's incredible that software that allows you to have so much control over the colors of your footage won't allow you that have color control of the interface. Please, I need clip colors with high contrast differences.

+1 , but only if you keep it as it is with fixed color patches. those are filter-able (super important), so completely custom colors for each clip are not the way to go. But some more patches especially in the red color spectrum are very much welcome

Yes, I'd say predetermined color, but more. And similar naming and order for Clip Colors, Flags and Bin Colors.

Like those boring regular colors you find in a cheap watercolor set for children, found on a rummage table.
And black and white and grey.
I dont need the clips looking like a color palett from a design offer.
I want to see fast and clear whats good, bad and ugly.

yes please. also the chocolate color looks nice, but the brown literally looks like ****. I'd also love black clip colors, and color shades instead of just slightly different hues.

And +1 for a custom color picker. Either the way Premiere does it with a preset / template approach in the preferences, or just the ability to override a selected marker's color with a custom one.

I think it is good to leave red for offline media, but some extreme clip marking option would be nice like an option to put big red vertical lines to a clip you want to bring your attention to.

Like an option to right click and "Mark as bad" and the clip gets some extra noticeable sign.

I don't have offline media in my edit, but I have bad VFX that I need to mark and make them stand out....

There is already a GIGANTIC "media offline" on that.

You don't see this in a timeline view, only the monitor when your playhead is on that. -1 from me.

Also much prefer the colours we have to Premiere's gaudy palette, though custom colours could be a welcome addition.

I appreciate that it's useful to be able to filter on colours, but let the user decide whether to use preset colours for filtering, or a full colour picker - would improve workflow quite a lot for some.

With all the innovation and advanced AI tools packed into DR it's funny to even ask for this =)

I guess this is yet another really simple feature that for some reason the developers are opposed to and will never give us a good reason why.

Might also be that, with all that meaty dev work they did, there just wasn’t time for most of the little features we’re hoping for.

I sure hope they get enough of a breather sometime soon to tackle a good chunk of them.

Some of these little features people have been requesting for 5 or more years. And as software developer myself, I can clearly say that many of these features could be done in hours or less.

Editing vertical video on the go on a laptop for example is still horribly painful because of the lack of ability to move the preview window left or undock it. This is a very quick thing to fix yet people have been asking for many years.

Or the simple auto refresh of media pool files that have changed on disk allowing projects to be used as templates... There are so many small things like this that its not a matter of time, they just simply refust to want to do it for some reason despite many many people asking for these things.

I share your view. I too was a software dev - though I switched to film 20 years ago. I think the problem is one of scale. There are no longer just a few feature and bug fix requests. At this point the backlog must be paralyzing. Some call this “technical debt” and it compounds like interest. So I feel bad for BMD staring at it and can understand why they might be reluctant to take it on.

That said, the only way forward is by going through. So, like you, I hope they take it on sooner than later.

+1 Same for me. I need RED. Maybe the best way to go is 8 primary colours with no way of changing (neither color or name) and then the N customisable
