Downgrade 19b project to 18.6 due to crashing.

PostSun Apr 28, 2024 4:41 am

I stupidly downloaded and installed the 19 Public Beta instead of 18.6, as I didn't realize it was a Beta
(the default download on davinciresolve website says DaVinci Resolve 19).

Now I have a project that I started in 19b1, and DaVinci is crashing like crazy. I can't even open the project anymore, it crashes as soon as the project loads. I've tried uninstalling DaVinci, restarting, and reinstalling, but it always crashes on startup.

Is it possible to downgrade my project to 18.6?

Alternatively, is it possible to see why it's crashing upon opening the project?

You can not open a v19 project in v18.
See the FAQs re what to report and how to post,
Inc your project file too.

I still think it would be great if it were possible to run release versions and betas concurrently, like for example Blender allows. Then you can do your mission critical work in the release version and do all testing in the beta.

Provided the two concurrent versions used separate databases and projects…

I test Betas on my Personal system. Paid work on the Edit system. ;)

You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Thank you @Peter Chamberlain, I have sent the crash log, dxdiag and project file to technical support. I hope they can help recover the project and prevent it from crashing on startup. (I didn't receive a confirmation email that the message went through).

I'm even more of a coward, I test in a 'sandbox' system on a separate boot with nothing else installed, so I can be sure that bugs are only related to the new software.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

That's a very wise move.
