Video will import but will show up as grey and not play

PostFri May 03, 2024 5:04 pm

I am on the Resolve 19 Studio and every time I import a video into the program it will import but the box shows up grey with no video, I have audio and it will not play for me in the timeline. I am on a windows 11 Laptop with a Ryzen 7 GPU. My computer at home is on windows 11 with an Intel GPU and seems to work perfectly fine and I have no issues with the program so I am confused as to why I'm running into this problem on my laptop.

here is a link to a video that won't work --> https://drive.google.com/file/d/1l-0lmi ... sp=sharing

Note: This happens for any type of media I've tried to import, I've tried a bunch of different formats and nothing works. I've also tried using the video linked on my Home PC and it works just fine.

Your sample clip works fine here. (Studio 19b2 on Windows 11)

Try these clips...

My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

If those BRAW clips won't play, my first thought is to look to a GPU driver issue.

Then we need the following:

In the Resolve Help menu, select "Create Diagnostics Log on Desktop"

This will place a Resolve log file named similar to this on your Windows desktop: DaVinci-Resolve-logs-20181228_140434.zip (You may not see the .zip extension if your system is set to hide known extensions).

Then open the Windows System Information app and do a File - Save (Not a File Export), which will generate a .NFO file.

Place both those files on a file sharing site and provide links to the files here. Make sure the links don't require access credentials.

If you are a new Forum user, you may not be allowed to post URLs. If this happens, just put a space near the front of the URL, so the system doesn't think it's a URL.

Resolve is not happy with the AMD iGPU.

You have the latest AMD graphics driver that Dell provides for your system.

I'd suggest a couple of things:

Open Windows Device Manager, select Display Adapters, then right click the Meta Virtual Monitor device and select Disable device. Then see if Resolve works properly.

If that doesn't help, remove the AMD iGPU driver with the DDU app, and then reinstall it from the Dell Support site. Details on getting and using DDU are in this forum thread:

viewtopic.php?f=21&t=119852&hilit=%2Bddu#p659861

The thread details removing an Intel GPU driver. Select AMD GPU instead of Intel.

Uninstalling the drivers with DDU and reinstalling them through Dell Support fixed the issue! Thank you for your help!
