Fairlight Gate for users or nightmare for designers?

PostMon May 06, 2024 1:38 pm

V19 introduced unique new features to Fairlight, using AI.

Why isn't there that function which in the Fairlight Legacy was called GATE and which in other DAWs, for example, is called Dynamic Split (Reaper) or Strip Silence (Protools)?

This request has already been asked in the past, but there has been no response. Fairlight has reached a truly advanced level of functionality for audio post and this option would be able to speed up the workflow.

An example: to synchronize/move a portion of audio (a word, an sfx, originally part of a single file) using GATE, which eliminates the intervals without "modulation" (with an appropriate setting), the head cut / tail cut of the silence part would be automatic and each clip created could be easily re-synchronized individually .

It should be remembered that in (G)Old Fairlight an unsurpassed feature was the operating speed.

Using the term Gate could cause confusion as it's normally associated with the term Noise Gate. You will find that the track Dynamics plugin has an Expander/Gate section. Strip Silence like Pro Tools would be the way to go.
