UltraNR - Buggy, slow, yet sometimes effective.

PostSat May 04, 2024 10:03 pm

Hey all,

Any thoughts on UltraNR?

Currently using it on my Macbook Pro M3 Max and it grinds DaVinci to a complete halt. Understandable because it's extremely powerful but the bugginess of the feature is what makes me the most cautious about using it.

Bugs so far:
-Hot pixels when paired with Temporal NR
-A strange semi-strobe effect on hair or any deep blacks (renders using this feature unusable).
-Worse bug is that it sometimes doesn't work on some shots for no particular reason. I click analyze and the sample patch box refuses to appear.

I get this is a Beta feature. Just got a wee bit too excited about UltraNR when it was announced as it would come in handy with those pesky, noisy Red sensors. The moments I've gotten the feature to work it has completely revived what was previously an unusable shot. In other moments I find myself at a loss. Anyone in the Windows end of the spectrum have better results?

no issues here, runs RT easly, does a pretty good job with -or- without temporal, can't repo artifacts in shadows, no negitive pixels values apprerant

Beta 1 or 2?

I've noticed the UNR is slower in beta 2 but doesn't slow things to a halt. Also, I haven't seen any bad pixels (yet) in B2

Been using this quite a bit.

It's not fast to process, and depending on where it analyses, there can be artifacts in deep black areas.

But generally I find it works quite well, and I see no difference in processing times with Beta 2.

My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.
