Audio routing in HD TV studio for streaming

PostMon May 06, 2024 4:56 pm

Does anyone know if the XLR in on the back of the ATEM TV studio is routed to the headphones out on the front when enabled and included in the mix? The reason for this question is that we are trying to do two separate jobs with the one device - play a video to the auditorium (AND stream) and at a different time stream camera plus auditorium sound to Zoom /youtube. The sound and video operators are reasonably competent volunteers - but tend to freeze when things go wrong!

The de-embedded sound from the video comes out the headphone socket on the ATEM front using AFV on the various inputs for one or two laptops.

In the other direction we inject a mix of auditorium sound into the XRL inputs so this can be heard on remote streamed devices effectively connected to the program stream. This input mix does not include directly the ATEM de-embedded audio but may include an open mike that can 'hear' the video sound.

This is obviously a recipe for feedback AND/OR Mushy sound with direct and delayed mixed. The feedback would come about either directly or indirectly via some auditorium mike but won't be as much of a risk if the XLR input deosn't come out the headphones output.

I think the ideal scenario that solves it all is effectively a two way switch that does:
a) Playing video mode - mute all xlr inputs to the ATEM and unmute the ATEM audio into the auditorium
b) Not playing video mode - open the XLR inputs to the ATEM and mute the ATEM audio into the auditorium

I can't see a way of doing that in the ATEM and is prone to user finger trouble on the SQ6. We do have a digital desk (the SQ6) and I was racking my brains whether I could use a soft key on the SQ6 to switch between modes.

Any useful thoughts or ideas appreciated. This is bending my brain somewhat!
